Portrait Audrey Pechenart Artiste Peintre

Hey!

My name is Audrey Pechenart and I'm a Paris based French artist specialized in Figurative contemporary painting and currently training in Photography.

My life purpose:

To create and live abundantly!

I grew up in the Parisian suburb, in a world that I thought sad and gray. As a child, I dreamt of becoming a fashion designer, a writer, a gourmet chef, an actress, or a movie set designer… My life had to be big, wonderful and busy doing great things, for it to be worth it! From a young age, I was pretty good at drawing and painting and I took classes in an atelier for 10 years. At that time, everybody already planned for me to later study at the Beaux-Arts and to end up as a painter. But I didn't want to "end up" somewhere. The prospect of doing something I already knew how to do, wasn't really appealing to me. I wanted to conquer something else, to become something bigger than what I already was... And, apart from being good at it, I didn't know why I was painting. So becoming a painter couldn't be an answer to what I wanted to do with my life - not at that time anyway. For years, I hardly touched a brush. Just wo canvases in 10 years, at times when I probably needed to remind myself that I was able to create something extraordinary, in its primary meaning. Something more beautiful than what life seemed to be back then. Later, I looked for my place and how I could participate in making the world more beautiful or better in the field of Social Sciences, then in Fashion and finally in the world of Luxury and Communication. But the world only got grayer and sadder in my eyes...

After a few years spent in the corporate world, at 28, I realized that I didn't like my life anymore. Not at all. So I decided to change everything and finally find my place. And, as in every time of doubt and uncertainty, I started painting again; to create something while I was figuring out what I wanting to do, to not waste my time... Until painting finally appeared to me, as canvases went by, as an intrinsic quality of my life, an indication of what I had always been: an artist. And soon after, I finally understood why I paint. It's the research that has always motivated my life: the search for more beauty and more perfection in this world. That's exactly what I express in my paintings. I spend hours, weeks on a canvas. Because when I paint, time doesn't count. I work until I reach what I think is the closest to perfection that I can achieve. When I paint, I try to create a beauty that is both alive and frozen, a beauty that looks like eternity, a beauty that does not fade. But even more than this, I know today that I do not paint to produce masterpieces, but to make my own life a masterpiece. I decided to become the artist of my own existence and to make my life my most beautiful creation. I am now convinced that it is by realizing what we already are deeply and working on to develop what has been put in our hands, that we can truly make the world more beautiful and perfect.

I mainly paint with gouache, that's my traditionnal and favorite type of paint. However, I have done some of my last paintings with acrylic and maybe soon, some with oil paint! As for the canvases, I use linen or cotton-blend ones in various sizes from one painting to another.

I start by sketching out the mains outlines of my figures to check my proportions, but after that, I go straight to painting. Most of the work is done, and time is spent, on the details. I rework my lines and shadings until they look as perfect as they can and the body seems to come to life on the canvas. I love the subtlety of the passage from the shadow to the light in my black and white and the combination of softness and depth in my colors.

I paint from pictures because what I looked for is to create figures that look real, even though I'm not trying to reproduce an exact copy of it. And what I am looking for is models who have a posture that is at the same time graceful, calm and melancholic, in a form of aesthetic romanticism. But above all, I choosed images that bring out something that I like and that I can't totally explain! I wish to create a picture where you can get lost in contemplation, be moved by its beauty and intensity.

I usually spend between 1,5 and 2,5 months on each of my painting. I only finish one when it feels like it's the best I can achieve (or when I'm so sick of working on it becauses it has been months already!). The hardest part is actually to know when to stop because I'm never completely satisfied with my paintings. But regardless of the time spent, I have a special affection for each of them. It's sometime a bit hard to imagine having to part with them!

The price of each painting is different because each painting is unique. But the price range goes from 7,000 to 12,000 €. For each canvas, the price is set according to the time spent on it (which varies between 1,5 and 2.5 months), the level of detail and complexity but also by my appreciation of it sometimes. Do not hesitate to contact me if you are interested and want to know the price of one of my paintings, I will be happy to answer you.

I usually choose my models myself, but if I were to like the image and it would match my painting style, then why not! So, feel free to contact me to discuss it.
